Turkish Women’s Union organized a meeting on GREVIO’s Evaluation Report on Turkey – Türk Kadınlar Birliği tarafından GREVIO Türkiye Raporu tanıtım toplantısı düzenlendi
A meeting was organized by the Turkish Women’s Union on December 18th to present and discuss GREVIO’s Evaluation Report on Turkey. Representatives of women’s organizations, gender and women’s studies departments of universities and Union of Turkish Bar Associations were among the participants. Turkish translation of the report was shared with the participants.
Feride Acar, President of GREVIO, emphasized the importance of the Istanbul Convention in her presentation, and elaborated on the Evaluation Report, which was published on October 15th. The report, evaluating the compliance of the Turkish legislation and practice with the Convention, includes 65 proposals and suggestions with different levels of urgency.
According to the report, the current situation in Turkey presents a mixed picture, since positive and negative developments coexist. The report argues that the level of comprehension of the connection between gender inequality and gender-based violence is insufficient; and also states that there are inadequacies in the implementation of laws and regulations.
18 Aralık’ta Türk Kadınlar Birliği tarafından düzenlenen “GREVIO Türkiye Raporunun Tanıtım Toplantısı”na çok sayıda kadın örgütünden, üniversitelerin kadın çalışmaları bölümlerinden ve Türkiye Barolar Birliğinden temsilciler katıldı. Toplantıda raporun Türk Kadınlar Birliği tarafından yapılan Türkçe çevirisi katılımcılarla paylaşıldı.
GREVIO Başkanı Feride Acar, İstanbul Sözleşmesi’nin önemini hatırlatan sunumunun ardından, 15 Ekim’de yayınlanmış olan GREVIO Türkiye Raporuna dair aktarım yaptı. Türkiye’deki mevzuat ve uygulamaların İstanbul Sözleşmesi’nin gerekleri ile uyumunun değerlendirildiği raporda aciliyetine göre derecelendirilmiş toplam 65 tavsiye/öneri bulunuyor.
Rapora göre Türkiye’de olumlu gelişmelerle endişe veren sebeplerin beraber bulunması karmaşık bir tablo çiziyor. Toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği ile şiddet arasındaki bağın kavranmasında eksiklikler olduğunu tespit eden rapor ayrıca yasaların uygulanmasında da eksiklikler olduğunu söylüyor.
