Naming and Shaming Sexual Violence / Osvijetlimo mrak seksualnog nasilja

Sexual abuse of children and women is still taboo in Montenegro, and the project “Naming and Shaming Sexual Violence” will contribute to the monitoring of the work of all institutions in the system of protection and improvement of the legal framework and its harmonization with European standards.

Sexual violence most often remains unreported, while on the other hand those survivors who choose to reveal sexual violence stay stigmatized by society, and the perpetrator most often remains unpunished for lack of evidence. Sexual violence in childhood leaves scars throughout whole life.

SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victims of Violence Niksic, Women’s Safe House and Prima will, during the two-year project implementation, which started in May, raise their own capacities to work with survivors of sexual violence, to monitor the work of all institutions in the system of protection after reporting sexual violence, working to improve the legal framework and its harmonization with European standards. In order to reveal and combat  sexual violence against children and women, we will organize a public campaign, conduct educational workshops in schools and Youth centers in all cities in Montenegro, educate journalists on ethical reporting on sexual violence.
